Pakistani is a country with a lot of colourful culture and people. Pakistan is a foodie community. Pakistani food is rich in flavour and unbelievably tasty. Different areas of the country have different tradition and food culture. Some areas are known for their famous food. We Pakistani people are famous for our hospitality. Our Desi food brings resplendence to the feast.

1. Karahi

karahi is one of the favourite dishes of Pakistanis. You can find karahi at almost every restaurant and also at family feasts.

The dish takes its name because of the utensil it is made in (a thick deep cooking pot “Karahi”)

karahi is a thick curry made with a base of tomatoes, ginger, garlic and also coriander, fresh green chillies, and Julian cut ginger. The meat is juicy and tender. It is mild to spicy and takes 30 to 40 minutes to prepare. Karahi is made with chicken, mutton or beef.

Karahi originated from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where it is made with salt and black pepper. Peshawari shinwari karahi is famous all over Pakistan. Karahi is gone through different variations and now we have different types of karahi, i-e koyla karahi, white karahi, green karahi, shinwari karahi, Dhaba karahi etc.

2. Nihari

Nihari got its name from the Arabic word “Nahar means morning”. It originated from old Delhi the Indian Muslim subcontinent. The nawabs of the mughal empire eat nihari in their breakfast. Now it became famous in Pakistani.

Nihari is a slow-cooked stewed dish made with shank pieces of mutton or beef. The dry spices are fried in oil to give it a rich flavour. It is rich in inconsistency and the meat is ultra-tender. It is red due to spices and oil. Nihari is garnished with fragrant Julian cut ginger, lemon, fresh green coriander and chillies, and served with Naan.

3. Biryani

When it comes to Pakistani food, Biryani is the hearty favourite dish of almost every Pakistani. It is not just a dish to us but an emotion to express our happiness and sorrow. Biryani is always on top of the menu when it comes to functions like weddings, iftar, aqiqa or any other family feast.

Biryani is made with rice and meat and also includes onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, green chilli fresh coriander, mint and dry spices. All of these are cooked together to make gravy and then layered with boiled rice. Food colour is also added to enhance the look. It is served with raita and salad.

With the passage of time, many variations are made to the original recipe and we have different types of biryani like, sindhi biryani, Hyderabad dum biryani, matka biryani, smoked biryani, Brown and vegetable biryani for the ved lovers.

When it comes to taste karachities prefer spicy biryani while lahories go for mild flavour. Karachi is famous for its biryani. Madni biryani is one of the best biryani in Karachi.

4. Paya

Paya is one the yummylicious Pakistani food. In Urdu language paya means (legs), so it is made with trotters of cow or goat.

It is also slow-cooked dish. It has a soup-like consistency. The main ingredients are onion tomatoes ginger garlic and some curry based spices. The meat is then cooked on mild heat for hours so that cartilage and meat become juicy and chewable. However, nowadays it is cooked in a pressure cooker.

Lahore is famous for Paya. phajjasiripaya is famous across the country. It is mainly served with fresh roti. This is a Pakistani food that you should try and you will love this deliciously slimy dish.

5. Saag

Saag is mainly found in Punjab. Saag means mustard greens. Made with mustard greens, spinach, bathu, green chillies cooked together.

The mustard greens are cooked on low flame for hours. So that it makes a thick paste. The edition of desi ghee makes the dish even more delicious.

saag is served with makhan, fresh makai ki roti, and a glass of lassi. Yummm.!

6. Saaji

Saaji is a Balochi dish, that originated in Balochistan, and is famous not only across the country but the world.

The meat is only seasoned with pepper and salt and a few spices and cooked for hours around the fire. The delicious taste is all about the quality of meat and charcoal heat.

7.Haleem

Haleem is also one of the famous Pakistani food. It is made with a mixture of wheat, barely, lentils and meat.

The spicy gravy of meat is cooked called norms until the meat becomes tender. Then wheat, barley and lentils are soaked overnight and boiled in salt water.

Then all of them are mixed together and cooked on a low flame and then beat with a hand mixer until it achieves paste-like consistency

Haleem is garnished with fresh coriander, green chillies, lemon and some chat masala.
